Death of Tewdrig

John Evan Thomas and William Meredyth Thomas, bronze electrotype

Electrotype statue by the Brecon brothers, John Evan and Meredyth Thomas, which was shown in the Great Exhibition in 1851. A plaster version won the sculpture prize at the 1848 Abergavenny Eisteddfod. Here the Christian Welsh king Tewdrig, having defeated the pagan Saxons, lies dying in the arms of his daughter while his harpist plays.
