Reading Well grant for Powys Libraries

Powys Libraries have received a £1000 grant from the Welsh Government to hold events in libraries to promote the Reading Well schemes. There are four Reading Well schemes delivered in Wales namely Reading Well for Mental Health, Reading Well for Dementia, Reading Well for Children and Reading Well for Teens and they recommend reading to help you understand and manage your mental health and wellbeing. The books are available in your local library and are free to borrow!

The following events have been organised to promote the Reading Well schemes:

The Poetry Pharmacy comes to Powys Libraries
Throughout March, readers can drop into various libraries across Powys and be prescribed remedies with a difference.  Poet and Poetry Pharmacist Rhiannon Hooson will be on hand to dispense Poetry on Prescription, an alternative therapy for your emotional ailments.  Usually only to be found at the UKs only walk-in Poetry Pharmacy in Bishop's Castle, drop-in Poetry on Prescription appointments are on offer on the dates below.
Each session lasts approximately half an hour, during which you will chat with the Poetry Pharmacist and be prescribed a suitable poem - and instructions as to how to take your poetry cure.

These sessions will take place at the following libraries:

  • Friday March 1st:

    • Llanfyllin 1.30pm

  • Friday March 8th:

    • Newtown 10-12.30

    • Knighton 2-4.30pm

  • Friday March 15th:

    • y Gaer 10am

  • Friday March 22nd:

    • Rhayader 10am 

 Local musician and illustrator Liam Rickard is going to run a series of Creating Comics workshops for teens at Machynlleth Library. The sessions will be on March 12th, 19th and 26th 5.30-6.30pm

Llandrindod Wells Library also have a children’s event on March 27th 10-11.30am.Meet the author & illustrator Anwen Nicholls and Ken Rees:  Come and join Anwen and Ken for a story and illustration session based on their popular Farmer in Training books.
