Happy World Book Day

World Book Day is all about celebrating books and reading, so it is an ideal time for us to launch several competitions for children across the County.

Pre-School children along with children of Foundation Phase age are being asked to re-create their favourite book character in any media. Their design should be no bigger than A3 in size, no smaller than A4 and must be in full colour.

KS2 children (7 – 11years old) are being asked to write a story. Their best friend has given them their favourite book, and they find out that it has magical powers. What are the book’s magical powers and how will they use them?

KS3 pupils (11- 14 years old) are invited to write a story of no more than 1000 words, using the theme ‘The Library is Broken’. How is the library broken? How will they fix it? Pupils can choose to interpret the theme however they like; it could be an epic fantasy inspired by a dream, an amazing adventure that takes place in another world, or a true-to-life story set in an imaginary school.

We’ve not forgotten the adults either! Our Adult Reading Challenge for 2024 is also launching on Thursday 7 March. Simply read 6 books from 6 themes before Thursday 5 September to gain entry into a prize draw.

Further details can be obtained from your local branch library.
