‘Walk and Talk’ Tour: Lovespoons - a Welsh Symbol of Love

  • Y Gaer Museum, Art Gallery & Library Glamorgan Street Brecon, Wales, LD3 7DW United Kingdom (map)

Join us for an informal 'Walk and Talk' tour around y Gaer's wonderful collections. 'Walk and Talk' Tours are held on the third/fourth Saturday of every month, starting promptly at 11am. Tours last 30 minutes and questions are welcome throughout.

The custom of giving lovespoons originates in the 17th Century and developed from the common wooden spoons carved for domestic use across Wales.

During the long dark winter months, countryfolk carved beautiful love tokens using wooden spoons, transforming simple utilitarian objects into intricately carved offerings of dedication and love.

Please note: This event will be held in the medium of English with references to the Welsh terms.
